WhiteFox Defense: WhiteFox Defense is a defense and security company that provides a full stack solution to mitigate UAS and drone threats. They have developed what they call the DroneFox which is a drone threat detection, identification, and mitigation device that is highly portable, easy to use, and cost-effective. They were tested in the summer of 2017 during the Joint Interagency Field Experimentation (JIFX) program by the U.S. Department of Defense’s Defense Innovation Unit Experimental’s (DIUx) Rogue Squadron. WhiteFox Defense’s DroneFox is the only system that is able to detect, identify, and mitigate UAS with a multi-mile range while allowing the operators to run threat assessments on UAS while whitelisting friendly drones. They raised a $2m seed round in June 2017 and they announced today that they raised an additional $12m bringing their total funding to a little over $14m.
Diveplane: Diveplane was a stealth startup until about three months ago which has the goal to create responsible and understandable AI. They want to make it trainable, interpretable, and auditable. Currently, many AI systems are a sort of black box where it is very difficult to understand why the system came to the decision or result, Diveplane wants to erase that. With their patented AI platform, they want to make AI more transparent and thus more trustworthy. They raised a $3.5m in a friends and family round last December and have over a dozen pilot programs going. Co-Founder, Michael Capps was formerly president of Epic Games and has degrees from UNC, Navy, and MIT.
